I lost another friend to the dreaded monster, the bogie of modern living, bowl cancer, last week. What I find difficult to understand is why? Oh not why it is so prevalent in society today, but why do people let it take a hold.
Early detection is so easy and relatively painless these days to have checked. Any slight symptoms should be discussed with a GP immediately. A change in bowl movement such as constipation and or Diarrhoea, colour change of the stools to black, which can mean a bleed high in the small bowl. Red blood, bloating, a feeling of general discomfort, anaemia, sudden and continuos weight loss. These are the most common symptoms and surely all of them easy to detect.
A colonoscopy when under a slight anaesthetic which is basically a tube with a camera on the end inserted in a clean bowel and that then scrutinises the small and large intestine. Any polips that may grow into a cancer can be removed without discomfort and almost always the diagnoses is clear. If there is cancer if it's caught early the prognoses for living a long and healthy life is good. If its been neglected then it's very poor as it will spread to other organs either direct or via the lympatic nodes.
The preparation for the colonoscopy isn't very much fun. It's basically cleaning out the plumbing of debrie so that the view is clear. It's a small unhappy price to pay for ones life though.
I wrote this because I'm sick of losing friends needlessly.
Hi everyone, well we have had some rain in the drought areas but not enough yet. It has been lovely though to follow the news and hear at last that rain has fallen. If only we can get more to follow soon.
My goodness what a strange old land this is that we Aussies call home.
Have you ever wondered just how come we have such strange and unique wild life here down under in this great forgotten land. Kangaroos and wallabies that use their powerful tail to hop with. The Koala that isn't a bear and that spends its life in a drunken stupor from its specialised diet of eucalyptus leaves. Then there is the platypus with a bill and a tail like a duck, webbed feet, fur like an otter, spends most of its life in water but lays eggs in a burrow and then suckles the young from milk glands.
Tasmania has the devil and used to have a tiger(actually a wild dog thingy)there's the dingo which is a wild dog. Birds too many to count. The emu a flightless huge great thing that can run down a Kangaroo, parrots, cockatoos, magpies. Kookaburras, budgeriegars, brolgars etc and stc. All unique and all indiginous to this land.
Well I have the answer. Rememeber Noha and his ark and how he saved the animals two by two while the rains fell for fourty days and nights?
Well here in Australia our animals were all preserved anyway cos out of that flood we got 30 points!
We are getting wonderful warm soaking Autumn rain here in Sydney as I write. Yes we need it badly and it's just wonderful. Our water reserves are extremely low and Sydney and all the major cities in Australia are in trouble. But the tribulations of the cities is nothing compared to the sunbaked dusty farming lands. That which for generations of farmers has produced the lushestcrops, the best cotton and the best orchards, the fattest cattle, the wooliest sheep is a of now, nothing more than wind swept dusty deserts. These are the worst droughts Australia has known for a hundred years or more. Is it all due to global warming? Is it a hundred year cycle that this country has to suffer? No one can really answer the questions yet. So yes while we hug our selves here on the coast as the rain pelters down, we pray for real rain where they need it more.
I did today you know the type, the telephone rings while you're at the clothes line and by the time you race inside it stops. You dial call back but it was a silent number and the electronic voice won't give it to you. You go back to the clothes and because you didn't stop to peg the sheet before racing inside, it's a soggy muddy mass on the ground. Yes, it fell in the only ungrassed spot in the yard.
Later you burn the dinner because the computer went on the blink cos the server was having trouble and you spent so long fiddling with it that you forgot the meat and two veg. and now the house stinks and it's gunna take forever to clean the saucepan.Hubby wasn't too pleased with a couple of eggs and cheese on toast either.
The last straw though the one that really ruined the day......the bottle of scotch has run out and you forgot to get another from the bottle shop when you were out so it's your fault, and now there's nothing to drink to settle the nerves at the end of this best forgotten day.
But it could be worse, just ask those poor stunned and grieving parents who lost a beloved child in Virginia USA.
I've been browsing through Google and finding that there are far more sites to write at than what I have time for. With normal everyday living chores to complete, family to help and to enjoy and an ailing husband to assist, not to mention the unfinished manuscript that sits with a layer of accusatory dust covering it. I just wouldn't have time to write all the time let alone read.
And I have to say that sometimes it's nice just to relax and lurk around here reading and enjoying the phenominal talent that is here at this place.
Well that's that....Easter has come and gone and so has another year for me by the way. I had another birthday!!!!! I love my special day I love being surrounded by family and friends. The little gifts, the kisses, the phone calls, they're all such fun But Oh dear another year older ...no! I don't need that. One little Grandson was looking at some photos of him with me back when he was two.(He's now eight.) "Nan" he says. "You were much younger then."
I want to wish all voices net people a very Happy Easter and if you are travelling at all, keep safe on the roads.
Whether your Easter is spiritual, religious or just lots of family, friends and chocolate I do hope you have a wonderful time.
My husband has just been through a terrible time. He needed a huge operation and although it all went smoothly(sort of) it's a long slow recovery. He is getting much better so here's hoping I have more time to post and read. Thanks for reading me and love to all.
I haven't been here for a bit mainly cos I wrote a short story for a competition. The cut of date was very close when my son handed me the entry form. I love a challenge but boy did the keys get a good dust off to write it on time and kiss it off in the post.
I wrote a family feel good piece with a dear little boy in it. I've stacks of grandsons and equally loved step grandsons so it was easy peasy Mumma cheesy to write.
Yep I'm a twice married grandmother and I have to say that the family is my life. (Although I will admit when it comes to men I can't pick em!!!)
It's only normal then that they feature in some way in my poems and stories. Actually I'm really chuffed with this latest work because all the family recognised who it was about and even the other little ones said it was just him!
A COLD WINTERS DAY
Little boy Victor on a cold winters day
Locked indoors and there he must stay
Pitter patter against the pane
The wind is blowing, down comes the rain.
Little boy Victor moody and blue
Cannot think of what he can do
As he slumps by the window looking glum
He thinks to himself, today is no fun.
Little boy Victor naughty and cross
Looks at Teddy and gives him a toss
He picks things up and throws them about
Then upends the toy box and spills it all out.
Little boy Victor laughs with delight
The toys are all jumbled and look such a fright
He grabs for his train and breaks it in two
Then looks around, what else can he do?
Liitle boy Victor spies a red car
Picks it up and flings it so far
His Mummy can hear the loud crash and clatter
Here she comes runnin, dear me what's the matter?
Little boy Victor looks at the jumble
Feeling so scared, not a word can he mumble
Mummy just stands, she's looking quite grim,
so little boy Victor, picks up each thing.
Little boy Victor on a cold winters day
Locked in doores and there he must stay
With Mummy's help he sits on the floor
takes out the pencils and begins to draw.
I stopped work on the novel to write a short story for a magazine competition. The cut off date only gave me one week to write it so I've been hot fingers at the key board. I posted it off with best wishes and kisses this morning so now I rest. It's a few months before the judging is finalised so I'll forget about it and work on other sruff. Back to the novel and more poems.
