Uncle Joe, a poem by Phil Valentino, USA

Uncle Joe
I had an uncle whose name was Joe, the wildest and craziest man you would ever know. When out of the blue he was told I’m sorry, you have cancer and wouldn’t grow old.The demon that seized his body was merciless and cruel trying to end his life without him having a clue. With a lot of life still at hand, my uncle Joe was not a beaten man, with his daughter’s wedding still to come; Uncle Joe fought the demon and wouldn’t run.It took all of his might to put up that incredible fight, so on that wedding day he could give his daughter away.He accepted what was meant to be, determined to live his final days with courage and dignity. The merciless demon succeeded in his dirty deed, to end Uncle Joe’s life without any sympathy. The demon thought Uncle Joe was dead, but to his utter surprise, Uncle Joe was still alive, not in body or mass to see, but in the hearts of his family.Dedicated to Uncle Joe.Phil Valentino
