Poem

To My Father

Was just on the phone to my father,
He means more than the world to me,
He may not ever know it,
Doesn't matter, because I can see.

The goodness he has blessed me with,
The strength he's given me to survive,
The knowledge he has kindly shared,
Through the way he's lived his life.

He really is my world,
I'm daddys girl, it's true,
I hope he sees this poem,
It'll mean more to him than you,

Not to be disrespectful,
Thank you for taking the time,
But if daddy really did read this,
It'd be all the more worth the while,

Nicole CoxheadHey I'm 15 and I'm not going to be cliche' and say I know how you feel, because I don't, and I'm not going to pretend I do because that would be unfair to you. I admire you for being able to put your feelings into words. Thats why I love poetry so much, because you can write what comes to your mind and it doesn't have to make sense as individual phrases, but as a whole it can take on such a powerful meaning. Thanks for the chance to feel this, keep on goingNew Zealand8/1/2009 10:56:22 PM
Cheryl Thank you so much for sharing your father's poem with the rest of us! It is lovely & loving. I am so sorry for your loss at such a young age. I have great confidence that your dad knows this is his poem from you. Please do continue to create such wonderful poems! We will all benefit. USA8/1/2009 3:03:19 PM

Marie O ConnorThank you so much Allison. I've tears in my eyes after reading your comment. You speak very wise words for a girl of 15! I can't express how sorry I am for your loss. I completely understand you ringing and leaving messages and there is no doubt in my mind that he hears every word you whisper to him. Don't be mad at yourself or feel any regret because life is too short, instead always focus on the good times, they're what will keep you going. Take care of yourself, best wishes, Marie x x xIreland1/4/2009 10:53:25 AM
DrSudarsan PrasadThanks for sharing this poem Marie, which has soaked up all your affection and endearment and tears for your Daddy!. I have only two sons but countless daughters of the mind with whom I share a strong bond of affection thicker than blood!. Surely If you can concentrate your mind , you can connect to him at any plane of existence, This I tell from my direct experience!. A superb poem indeed!India1/4/2009 10:06:02 AM
Allisonthis poem really touched my heart. im 15 my dad died last may. its really nice to know im not the only one. you wrote this poem hoping he can somehow read it. i call his phone and leave voice mails, hoping and wishing he can somehow check them. It's amazing the things you realize when you lose some one. You get mad at yourself for not saying the things you could have said a billion times and you take for granted the days you spent doing nothing when you could've been with them. Anyone can be taken at anytime but we always wait until they're gone to say the things we never had the courage to say before. thanks Marie for writing this.united states1/4/2009 4:59:17 AM
Marie O ConnorI'm really sorry Maria. It can be so hard when life moves on, leaving us behind, with a feeling of always trying to catch up. I understand you being slow to make things up with your father. I presume there is a feeling there that he is the one that should be making the effort. My sister and I were talking the other day and were laughing. You know how as a child you view your parents as superhumans, like they can do no wrong and that they have the answers to absolutely everything? Then one horrible day you wake up realising they're just ordinary people, (it probably happens over a period of time but one day it just hits you with a bang!) Well unfortunately they are, and they have weaknesses and flaws so sometimes we have to be the *superhumans* and step up to compensate for their mistakes. Remember we can't choose our family so its up to us to make the most of what we are given. My prayers are offered for your uncle. x x x xIreland12/22/2008 4:15:35 AM
mariaHi Marie, My name is Maria and I appreciate your poem. My name is also Maria and I feel a distance between my fateher and I for a long time now. I have had a tragedy in the family when mothers brother passed away recently. I was advised to make it up with my dad incase the inevitable happens but it is so difficult. Dont get me wrong I love my father so much and he has always been my idol but he married my stepmother 18 years ago and I felt that I have lost him since then. Hes very money orientated I feel and she is the cause however, He is married to her with three beautiful girls 13, 12 and 8 yrs and I cant help but feel he doesnt want to know. He has really let me down on things in my life and I idolised this man. I found your poem apt as it seemed to capture exactly what I want him to read. Its so hard to say sometimes.....ireland12/18/2008 8:09:26 PM

Deanna DilleyThis is beautiful Marie! I'm sure your dad is very proud of you. Several years ago I wrote "For My Parents" which I had printed on a placque and gave on their 27th anniversary. They've been married 34 years now. We've all had to deal with some very difficult issues. You'll understand if you read my profile and some of my poems. There is no pressure. Read only if you want to. :)USA1/24/2008 5:47:59 PM
