Poem

BUTTERFLY

carry bucket of recycled shower
water to thirty year old thirsty fern on
embankment, wilts with week’s heat

butterfly flickers, lands on rock
momentarily disappears in greyness
wings tightly closed in prayer

sudden movement as wings open
and close, repetitively, burnt-orange
black and white spotted oriental fan
