BOXING

no use pretending otherwise
can’t handle sound of fist on face
no matter how hard try to detach
still hurts soul to hear it, whether
accidental or otherwise

no matter how much oil rubbed into
skin of those fighters, or how high
they raise those gloves in air, seat at
ringside no place for one who believes
bodies made for higher purposes
