Holocaust

"They'll come in the night"
she would say.
and so under the floorboards,
we lay

"it's Hide and Seek - all's okay
Quiet now - no tears!
don't tell the soldiers we're here"!

I listened intently, and watched
They're coming - they're coming close

First leather and buckles, I see
then menacing eyes,
scouring for me?
such terror
indescribable fear.

Now it's my heart
beginning to pound,
hysterically screaming,
silently suffering,
Mother is found.

From a window I saw her run,
this angel who made me born,
she stopped then,
and she caught my eye,
momentarily smiling,
mouthing goodbye

As the evil
within him
took aim,
to fire

Michele BossleyThanks to everyone who liked this poem. I wrote it (I think age 15) when I was at school. I was inspired/prompted to write poems about this subject when I read some personal accounts of actual people involved. One story was about a child witnessing her mother die brutally and it had a major impact on me.Scotland5/17/2009 1:57:07 PM

JonathanWow. This is a really good poem to express how someone would feel during a horrible time like this. It really touches me how you can see how hurt this little child is, watching his mother being killed, exploding the moment dramatically.United States of America3/9/2009 7:36:44 PM
