SEASONS IN SCHOOL (Italian sonnet)

Cold January, anxious students start school,
February breezes by, kids settle in,
Bright March, sports fever, students make a din,
Watch out! April showers, squelchy shoes rule.
Sprightly May, teacher’s day, being one is cool,
Warm June, assessment time, learn smart to win,
Dry July, sweaty shirts, sun hot on skin,
Torrid August, need a dip by the pool.
September’s promise! Hard work, bright future!
October gives rewards, diligence pays.
November dawdles, up one’s temperature,
Chilly December welcomes holidays,
A child needs a teacher, him, to nurture
To be an adult with sweet loving ways,

abbaabba cdcdcd (each line has 10 syllables)

Jacinta RamayahMarcia and Janet, thanks for writing. Had to rewrite this poem when I went through the internet and found that all sonnets are a 14-line poem but with 10 syllables - and each type of poem had different rhythms. Shakespeare wrote 150 of them - What a poet!Malaysia2/28/2009 7:26:01 AM

Marcia SchechingerJacinta a clever and unique school year. Remember those days well. If only all teachers had "sweet loving ways" like yourself, but then no one would want to graduate :)USA2/27/2009 4:36:45 PM
