Poem

GENTLE SOUND OF RAIN (Onomatopoeia)

gentle sound of rain
in puddles plopping
pings metal corrugations
dripping and dropping

swishing and rushing
gushing into gutters
gurgling in down-pipes
running water splutters

pushing into crevices
washing window-panes
dashing down drive-ways
flushing out drains

splashing onto roads
spatters parked cars
forms scatter-patterns
like pock-marked Mars

crashing to crescendo
as brassy cymbal's roar
cacophony on roof
deafening downpour

Luke Harlow-LawrenceHi Lee. Instead of writing an onomatopoeia i tried an alliterative poem. I'm not sure how easy it is to find so heres the link. Let me know what you think. Thanks =]Canada4/14/2010 11:13:04 PM

Lee Emmettthanks Luke, suggest either put yourself (or imagine) in a specific location (eg. farm, school, shopping centre) and identify the sounds, one by one ... then find an appropriate verb (action word) which you associate with each sound ... an onomatopoeia poem will generally form in your mind after you give yourself these sorts of helpful starting 'hints' ... and just keep writing ... everyone's efforts improve with practice ... enjoy!!Australia4/11/2010 9:30:39 AM

ROS SHRAPNELLee - 'cacophony on roof, deafening downpour.' I must say I do enjoy that sound very much. A welcoming sound on a chilled winters night, warmly huddled infront of huge log fire, sipping hot cocoa. Lovely and comforting! I loved reading this over. Cheers.Australia7/22/2009 11:13:17 AM
