MELBOURNE CUP DAY DINNER

Melbourne Cup Day dinner
at community-harvest mates'
formal table, set for eight
rain starts, light grows dimmer

each person has brought food
soup served with garlic-bread
wine soon goes to head
ingredients home-grown, good

hostess' silver-beet dish
accompanied by artichokes
in corn-meal pancake-spokes
and vegetable-patties rich

biscuits with beetroot-dip
and eggs with golden yolks
friends all cracking jokes
laugh at each other's quips

freshly cut fruit salad
with three types of ice-cream
every gourmand's dream
and lovely evening had
