SNOWFLAKES IN THE DARK

Snowflakes
bouncing, jumping,
hopping, flying,
Why aren't they crying.

Oh my,
hitting silently,
on cold windshield.
swiftly dodging
in the cold dark
Kids blinking quickly
as they hit landing
then atop the muddy snow.

They flew past us
forceful winds hit
against their backs
frisky flying flecks
glittering endlessly
sparkling in the night.
fored outward by cold winds
as they blow.

Sitting quiet
Shivering
inside our old car
we watched
in the night
of a wonderous
mellowing view,
one stuck, then two.
a feeling joyous
and so new.

Now I'm older
change comes with age
I panic and frantic
of snow at it highthens
like thick blanked
neighborhoods white
blanket over driveways.

Oh my aching back,
Just one more heavy,
shovel full,
bringing pain,
in back and thigh.

Why oh why,
does anyone think,
fun is skating
in an ice rink.
I nearly fall
and almost
squawl at word
of coming snow storms.

But memories
sometimes come
Oh what fun
so long long ago
It was to be
in the snow.
watching closely
each snowflake
as it melted on
the cuff
of my thin green
coat.
