Poem

MEMORY

Reminiscences of bygone days;
They linger on, long in my heart.
As a feather touch, a prick of pain
A wanting, which I can’t explain.

Memories old and long buried
Out of ashes like phoenix, arise;
Bringing a tear, a burning sigh;
Or making me smile in silent mirth.

Descending on as a swift drizzle
Dredging me in its gloomy dampness;
Or as the autumn sun, coming unaware
Wrapping me in its warm brightness.

Memories sweet, some sour, some sad;
All that is left of my trodden path,
They build up my life as bricks aligned;
I wonder, is there a me without them?
