CHINESE POLITICS
How I love democracy, But here it is hard to find, ‘Cause of people’s illiteracy, And their simple obedient mind.
Those who possess power, Are laying their greed bare And pursuing gains every hour, But of our welfare unaware.
“We delegate your interests” we are told, And everywhere similar words are repeated; But why are many still hungry and cold, And our basic problems simply neglected?
Those work hard gain little, While those don’t much enjoy; The obsequious climb fast and high, But an honest man is abused as an errand boy.
Justice was once something to treasure, But injustice now goes beyond measure. One who sells her/his body and soul for power Should have today become somebody to admire!
Oh lord, what must be done to save this wasteland, And return it to its kind people’s hands? A government must be square and fair, Or why should it at all stay there?
If the ‘top’ still allow its officials to be so corrupt, The rebellious volcano of people will surely erupt. With an ancient wise saying I warn them to think, “Water* that transports the boat can also let it sink.”
*: The ancient Chinese compare the people to water and the king to a boat.
