SUMMER DAYS

Roller skates and first dates, water fights and late nights
Scavenger hunts and game winning bunts, scraped knees and blooming trees
Soccer games and Band-Aids, camp outs and no clouds
Bike rides and water slides, flip flops and tank tops
Tiki lights and mosquito bites, convertible cars and bright stars
Long walks and sidewalk chalks, training wheels and garage sale deals
Vacation plans and Kool-Aid stands, blowing bubbles and tennis doubles
Sun screen and jelly beans, water balloons and sunny afternoons
Barbecues and ice cream scoops, sunglasses and sand castles
Lemonade and roller blades, baseball spikes and flying kites
No school and swimming pools, rainbows and painted toes
Carnival rides and dandelions, catching frogs and puppy dogs
Finger Jell-O’s and marshmallows, boat rides and blue skies
Picnic lunches and cotton candy bunches, camp fire songs and sing alongs
Swimsuits and swallow swoops, night time swims and basketball rims
Skateboards and meltin’ S’mores, drive-ins and best friends
Butterflies and french fries, skippin’ rocks and ignoring clocks
Firework blasts and straw hats, pony tails and sailboat sails
Pretty flowers and sand castle towers, strawberry fields and fishing reels
Bumble bees and putting greens, jump ropes and telescopes,
Sleeping bags and frozen tag
As the summer sun sets one last time, in a now autumn sky,
And summer days reach their end, we can’t wait for them to start again.

coolieoo My Answer They ask me what you are to me and I cannot say, Because of all they will read in the air. And they Ask me what I think but when I think of you I go blank and sink into images tangible with feeling. What you are to me is real, whole and not fragile, Not made of glass nor yet sent to reach me out. And then What you are becomes a pure being, a melting spirit of Memory and music, perfection and star brightness in human form. What you are is wish and answer, a hope that is alive and Beautifully terrible, vivid cool fire with an angel's face. What you are is a walking surprise of reaching smiles, A collection of essence, a heart with the power to touch and to move. And I would wish to be as bright, as true as I feel You to be, as substantial as the hand that held mine. And I would wish to be beside you as a living shadow, Always and never there, and felt somehow forever. Copyright © 1996 by Katherine Foreman.ny6/3/2008 7:12:19 PM
