EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT

In the middle of a dark blue night
my grandmother came to call
to let me know equivocally
everything would be alright.
She lay upon feather pillows
in a sparkling antique bed
dressed in pearl and azure floral,
auburn hair waved atop her head.
Her hands rested across soft lace.
She smiled in a now smaller lap.
She looked much younger,
in fact, quite aglow,
yet never a word she spoke.
Instead, she just floated
in her bed up to mine
and her knowing eyes
sent the words inside
for that’s all that was ever needed.
I knew in an instant that all would be fine,
I knew she had seen the angels.
By the way, she loves the smell of lilacs
and still prefers to wear lavender
on occasion.
