THE FALL, a poem by James P. Rossi, USA

THE FALL
The sun glistens off the morning dew.The air is crisp and the sky is blue. The smell of fire smoldering from a nearby home.Squirrels move across the lawns where they roam, gathering nuts for the long winter that lies ahead.Leaves swiftly but gently pass down the river bed, from the trees where they hung just a minute ago.A strong wind passes and off they go. Falling to the earth with elegant ease.Every child in the neighborhood, they will please. When the gold and browns and reds and greens are gathered in a pile across this scene. The children move in to make their mess.In long pants and sweatshirts now is how they dress.Moms watch in windows with a gleam in their eyes, as they watch the kids play under the amber fall skies. As the children run in one by one, they can smell the hot chocolate is almost done.Dad is out front with the mower one last time,he always wants to make his lawn look fine. The look and smell of the fresh cut lawn will soon fade away with the new day's dawn.Once again, another fine fall day, and once again the children go and play.
