MY SON

Interesting, our relationship
People talk about its oddities
Yet, it's not extraordinary at all
For its seething in its very normal qualities

The authentic sting of your silence
Is very pungent, quite cutting and poignantly powerful
I wonder why we ever began
This quiet association which has become profusely mournful

Perhaps it's because you don't realize how I admire you
Maybe it's because I smother you, due to my loneliness
You're young, yet time seems shorter for me
But you have your own, I realize you need to be free

I have guided you, with steady hands, to the best of my capacity
I have counseled you with abstruse sincerity
You can't deny your dormant tenacity
What little you've let me provide has been met with complex adversity

Maybe, you don't love me anymore?
Perhaps, you can't...?
Could it be..., you never did?
I miss what we were becoming, I miss you and I want my son back.

AnnabelleThis could have been the story of my life. I found this poem very touching. Seems like no matter where wer are in this world, when it comes to our children, no matter how old, (my son is 32)we seem to go through the same amount of pain at times.South Africa10/5/2008 10:30:57 AM
