SIBLING RIVALRY

The past few years we have drifted apart.
The farther we drift the more “it” starts.
The sleepless nights, and biting my nails,
Hoping you are safe and well.

You're drinking and driving and breaking the law.
It’s hurting you, it's gonna be your downfall.
Those people you are calling your friends
Are just using you, they won’t be there in the end.

You are my family, my flesh, my blood.
Throughout all this, I still give you my love.
Can’t you understand the harm, the shame?
It’s given you and me a very bad name.

You know I love you, but this must stop!
It’s time for you to grow up and bring this to a hault.
I don’t want to attend your funeral. I don’t want to see your grave.
You must leave your past and start a new life today.

Jacinta RamayahA genuine heartfelt poem of one's love for a brother. Do write more, Chrystal. You have talent.Malaysia1/23/2010 8:39:12 PM
VeeHi Chrystal! My inner-city 5th graders examined your poem this week-- almost 90 people--and 95% of them started getting into figuring it out! Your poem contained perfect descriptions for teaching inferences and that feelings are complicated. The boys started tuning in when they heard drinking and driving and even found themselves trying to name the feelings described in your poem. In school, they rarely go beyond glad, sad, mad. Your poem is perfect because it has simple words, an implied story even my non-readers can visualize, real life content, and the descriptions of feelings and actions without naming them. Thanks. Keeping creating. USA1/23/2010 6:34:47 PM
