Poem

I NEVER SAID GOODBYE

I never said goodbye to you,
it made no sense to me.
I only say goodbye,
to those I'll never see.
One day I'll hold your hand again;
in my heart I do believe,
that death is not the end of life;
it's just a short reprieve.

I never said goodbye to you,
instead I said "I love you".
As you departed on your journey
to a place where life is new.
I held your hand and kissed you.
Your leaving made me cry.
But in the end,
I know I'll see you again...
So I never said goodbye.

DonaldI just lost my grandmother. We as a family had to make the choice to take her off of life support and let her go. The night she died, everyone took turns to say goodbye, but I couldn't, because I felt like it was giving up all hope. Instead, I said I love you. Since the loss was so recent, and fresh in my mind, this poem had me locked in a bathroom crying. It's that touching, it put exactly how I feel into words. It's amazing. Thank you for this beautiful poem.USA9/28/2009 8:33:18 PM

l s riveraOct.5,2008...I held my mother's hand for about an hour after she took her last breath. I couldn't say goodbye either. I didn't want her to go. I just sat there and kissed her hand and held on tight and told her I loved her. She's in heaven, where she belongs. Your poem put words to my heartache.texas,usa1/27/2009 1:18:56 AM
