GOLDFISH IN MY FISHBOWL
Mangoes were exploding yellowriver lilies pale green and brownrice paddies empty playgroundsand my hair thick with dust blow;things were in full swingin the apotheosis of the sunwhen I remembered the fishbowlwhere wrigglers now live.So I bought one lonely goldfishto eat and race them in never endingcicles. Soon --mangoes fell and rotriver lilies bloomed painful lavenderrice paddies cold fishing groundsand my hair slick with the torrent;thing were swimming in the treacherous brown currentwhen the circles endedwhere it should. The goldfish died, butI was still there; lonely onebreathing, waiting, dreaming, drowningin a bigger fishbowl--a bigger goldfish.
