Do Not Cry

Do not cry for me, my dear…

My last wish is for you to
carry me with the breezes
when they swirl delicately
beneath the storms you’ll
gather amidst your spirit.

As rain pelts harshly against your heart,
let the soothing trickle calm your soul.
When you feel like you’re drowning,
lay down quietly and savour
the tranquillity of memories,
allow them to cleanse your pain.

I’ll speak to you through nature’s gifts
and I’ll never be far from your door.
When colourless clouds surround your mind,
I’ll paint them brightly with tones of love.
I’ll ask the birds who sing so sweetly
if I can borrow their voice
to remind you I haven’t gone far.

Every leaf or feather you see floating
is me, asking you not to cry.
Each pebble you see washed upon the shore
is your reminder that I didn’t die.
The rippling waters are my giggles
and the wave-tops are me saying hello.
Never forget how much I love you…

I’ll be here ‘till you ask me to go.

KimberlyThis is a beautiful poem. I will be attending a rosary tonight, and a funeral tomorrow of a wonderful young woman. She was loved by so many. I would really like to send this poem to some of her other closest friends. Please allow me to do this. I think it will help them to heal, and bring a smile to their face.United States12/10/2007 6:45:19 PM
David BradburnYour poem is wonderful and uplifting. Soon after reading it I was greeted outside my window by a small green hummingbird (at my home near Boston, Massachusetts in the USA) and started to cry at the thought that my late mother had something to do with its presence. Thank you!USA8/28/2007 3:05:28 PM

Tom HenveyHeard it today for the first time on 'Silent Witness' on BBC America. I Googled "do not cry" and came up with the poem. I will read it at my father's funeral. I am not religeous and it says what I believe: solace and souls are in the minds of those who live which has nothing to do with the bodies that die. Thank you. -thUSA4/22/2007 4:12:36 PM
