A LETTER TO MY MOTHER
from dusk to dawn sunrise to sundownthis I will never forget your kisses that always left me in a comfort and a bliss that no grief could ever secretea mile-wide-smile and sweetthat never deserted your cheeksYour submissiveness When my stomach would rumbleHow you would enable my aptitudesAnd change my ill attitudesAnd fashion my self-esteemNot to be the next awaited victimUnder any state of affairs You reduced yourself down to zeroBut to me you were still a hero Jointly we went outdoors and out And more often than not We would go up the hills And lean idly upon the wallsYou were my physician Upon all signs of hypochondriaYou were a mother superiorYou did the whole in a real thrillYou were to me mother-of-pearlPeople said, "too much sweet cloys"But your love to me grew bold in all waysNow and then I never thoughtLife could bring in me a heart-strifeAnd put a blot of blood on my ecstasyI recall one day I stood neighboring youWith my two hands akimboIt was the nightfall of the 16th July My tongue had stranded on its pivotsMy mouth was kept mumSo were my tryoutsTo keep you from shutting those eyesI asked myself so many whys I stretched my eyes to see if it was a lieOnly to hurt them and find I couldn't denyThat I was left a flag without a poleAnd like a shoe without a soleOr like a worker denied a doleIn my heart there was now a holeLife turned a wound that hurtI got myself caught up in a mesh Like a fishbone stuck in my throatI never thoughtLife could be so diceyI was blind at the outset now I seeThis life will never set me free In every breath I'll pay a huge feeFor my blameworthy breakthroughsStill death split people into twosThe worldly and the heavenly The lonely and the heavenlyMothers gone, children left odd socksLittle strokes fell great oaksin my life time and hereafteras long as eyes can see, mouths can utterfrom side to another, below to abovethere has never been a heartfelt love like yours to me or whose love that can be?
