Homeschool Student

Poetry Championship

The VoicesNet Home Schooled Student Poetry Championship is a literary poetry contest that is specifically intended for students who are home schooled by their parent(s) or other legal guardian(s). All applicants must be 18 years or younger when their poem is submitted and can not attend public or private schools.

This poem contest was announced at the beginning of July, 2004 after the overwhelming success of our VoicesNet Anthology International Poetry Competition and our Youth Web Words Competition. VoicesNet has been in business since January of 2002 and has judged well over 50,000 poems.

VoicesNet produces and mails out its contest books to customers around the world having sold its poetry publications in 38 countries.

The following material will review the details of the new VoicesNet Homeschool Student Poetry Championship.

VoicesNet Homeschool Student Poetry Championship

We offer the VoicesNet Homeschool Students Poetry Championships twice per year. We have a Winter and a Summer Poetry Champion that will be chosen each year.

There is no fee to enter.

Poems must be submitted in English only.

Only one poem can be submitted at a time for judging. If a poet's submission is declined, they can then submit an additional poem for judging.

We are NOT a Vanity Press.

We can ship these books internationally.

We would like to extend our personal guarantee of the book's quality. If you are not completely satisfied, please send the book back and we will promptly refund your money.

Special Note: A book does not have to be ordered for an author to be published in our competition book.

How and When to Submit

We ask that you submit your poems by January 1st and July 1 of each calendar year.

Submission Requirements
We have these basic requirements for poems to be considered for publication in the "Home Schooled Students Poetry Championship" publication .

Poems must be original works.

Only one poem selected per poet per contest is allowed.

The poet's full name (or pen name), age, country, and an always active email address must be provided. Poets must not share the same email address with other poets.

The poet must be able to be notified via email of the results of the judging of their poem.

Once notified of selection, a poet must fill out and return a signed permission slip, along with a signature from their home school teacher.

There are several criteria used for acceptance of the writing.

The younger children are judged by less stringent requirements, as the age of the poet goes up so do the standards for selection.

The judges who read the poems look for originality, rhythmic sounds, rhymes, and audience appeal.

The judges also look for poems where the authors really care about the subjects or trivial subjects approached in a novel way.

Poems are looked at in the categories of: Creativity, English usage, Grammar/Punctuation, Readability, Pure Entertainment Value, and Cultural Significance.
