One...two...three...four... Blood streaming down my back In pain, in agony My eyes don’t want to see Vessels tearing Muscles showing Skin peeling from Me Must I go on? Spit coming down my face The blood blurs My vision As the crown of thorns Is pushed on My head All of my clothes taken from Me Naked, beaten, humiliated, Carrying the jagged, wooden cross Hearing the crowd mock, curse, laugh Step after step...must I go on? My arms stretched, My feet crossed One nail, then another, then another The hammer pounds them thru My flesh I am lifted up into the air Must I go on? Three hours of darkness I hung there Feeling the weight of My body Against the nails I cry with a loud voice My spirit lifts up from Me Why did I go on? I love you. ~ Jesus
