Little I say here is odd But trivial appertain all One’s notion if sailing to man’s mind Observing other shore should not go and toil For what use be other shore If thither sail he and further sail none For what be the wind honor If ship sail and sail sure. No! The mind cannot be instructed By the ardent spirit of transcendental eloquenccy If the tide set him in perpetual disquietude Tis vain and futile and flimsy Striking thy opposition with furious breath For what be the prating man pride If he cannot stop and think and speak and wait For what be the chatter shield If he speak and spit and answer and ask and persuade Less his argument fails to succeed If thy stillness and brook be stirred.
