You've been my friend and my protector Keeping me safe and warm Fought battles for me and guarded me through storms Guided me through puberty and into womanhood Telling and teaching as only a mother could We've laughed and talked, fought and cried Not then, but now, I see how you tried To teach me the things a christian should do Who to stay away from and who to turn to When I needed direction, you led the way Giving advice so I wouldn't go astray All the sacrifices you made, you thought I didn't know Keeping your head up so your suffereing wouldn't show Sitting up at night, worrying and crying Working hard for your money, spending and buying I'm thankful and grateful for all you did But I didn't realize it until I had a kid I remember as a child I wanted to be just like you And now that I'm a mother, I still do!
