If one was to assume that The power of one’s name Issues from the design of One’s stake in the game. Then the lofty and lowly Reveal their connate status The courage of our passing Spins our world on its axis. The contract of truth Between predator and prey Demands fidelity To its ancient ballet. Within the multitude Members find asylum Subject to appetites Of a higher phylum. Dragonfly perched on My rod with grace Awaiting your mate And a tandem embrace. Damselflies and mayflies And deerflies you may stalk All fall victim to the deadly mosquito hawk. Your archaic form Both robust and slim Survives today By nature’s whim. On a hot August day Your attentions directed By a feast on the wing Satisfaction expected. Did you even notice The shadow on the wave? Can you possibly know The currents you brave? Live fully today You’ll be gone next month Your part in the fray A mere zillionth.
