As a sailor nearly went under the waves, He knew he was going to drown, He'd stopped fighting long ago, The soft cry of the sea he no longer listened to, Stopped filling the air, As a sweet, sweet song took it's place, Fluttering on the breeze, He did not think of the bitter death, He knew what awaited him, But of everything else in life, The things that make it golden, He thought of the flowers in spring, The bitter taste of frost in fall, The colours in June, He'd felt them all! Last of all, He thought of his family, The colour of his wife's hair, How his daughter said goodnight, Of every toy his son had ever made, And suddenly, He found the strength, To swim to the wood, Bouncing on the waves, For that day, The sailor learnt his most valued lesson, Life is worth fighting for.
