Explore the long and winding path That stretches through Rows of ponderosa pines Where the fir and spruce and leafy raiment shines Across the haze of Sleepy cavern lines The sun sets as ebbing shadows fall and time passes Into canyon walls. I gaze down at caverns Deep and wide From cleft to rolling cleft Peak to flowing peak as Crimson rock and flowing hills Collide into the endless chasm Of earthly splendor Shadows stretch across the great divide a solace and rest for our busy troubled lives. From the rocky edge I creep And gaze at the caverns deep An echo chimes in the silence As a tiny pebble falls into oblivion. Looking downward I stand amazed Wondering how the world can doubt Fail to see God’s love for humanity. Every spire and every crevice Placed in perfect harmony This abyss of exhalted beauty Created for man’s simple pleasure. Father I see you in this canyon grand How you give your all to man These canyon walls The endless deep A wondrous gift for all to keep. The canyon calls to me Standing on the precipice Depth, height and width Are blended into an open chasm Like rippled lace Of time and space Where plans and dreams are made We walk away forever changed. Waning shadows like a veil descend Darkness crawls along the walls Into the deep abyss it falls A gentle wind propels me Closer to this spectacle of color and might My spirit soars and my heart is light A raven proudly glides above His wings spreading proud and free higher and higher he does climb Melting into the chasm of space and time Somewhere down in the abyss the raven calls and echoes vibrate Through the mighty Grand Canyon walls!
