Sitting on this boat As it rocks about I think about the forces at work Waves that crash against the shore The ones that gently roll Beneath the hull A peaceful, calming sight right now Reasurring me of serenity But the tides may change And the winds may shift The tranquil scene may soon be fierce The comfort they once gave me It will fade away as the sun sets Darkness will not be my only enemy It will conceal the great force Its strength grows And my boat is rocked about Like a mere leaf Caught in the current of a winding river How quickly this placid scene changed Into my greatest fears With each pounding wave My heart beats faster Simple moments in my life flash Their significance in my life Now seems so evident So many things I wish to change So many people I need to see I can't just leave them like this Reconcile with my enemies I can't go out with a heavy heart It shouldn't end this way I need to be at peace Like the waves once were I cry into the night Begging for the storm's mercy Compassion is hard to find out here As I sit huddled in a corner A feeling comes over me A word for it can't be found The only thing close Is a deep feeling of forgiveness Like my conscience has been relieved A timid light begins to shine Just to the east of me It grows slowly But I wait patiently The sunshine cascades over the bow My eyes see the remnants Of last nights events For a moment I feel uneasy The sea is flat and lifeless The sail is still and limp But then tranquility finds me once again A cool gentle breeze from the north Peaceful waves begin to roll They seem to soothe me I set course for home To make things right So that the waves continue to gently roll I wish for them never to be thrased about By the angry winds from the south All I wish for is the sea's forgiveness And for its great compassion Especially for those lost in its waters
