Poem:

LESSONS OF WAR

Heroes fall on battlefields far away
Their life blood spilled for cause and for country
Families left with prayers and fading memory
Of mothers crying, begging sons to stay
So many sons that no longer will play
March off to war to keep their country free
Their mothers battle demons none can see
As fathers choke on words too late to say

Will lessons learned this time again be lost?
Like those from all the wars fought in the past
Our brightest and our best must pay the cost
With hopes that this war now will be the last
We pray a new horizon has been crossed
Since peace is so much better by contrast
