LESSONS OF WAR
Heroes fall on battlefields far awayTheir life blood spilled for cause and for countryFamilies left with prayers and fading memoryOf mothers crying, begging sons to staySo many sons that no longer will playMarch off to war to keep their country freeTheir mothers battle demons none can seeAs fathers choke on words too late to sayWill lessons learned this time again be lost?Like those from all the wars fought in the pastOur brightest and our best must pay the costWith hopes that this war now will be the lastWe pray a new horizon has been crossedSince peace is so much better by contrastAn Italian Sonnet
