 Poem:

IT DID HAPPEN

I didn`t see the blood,
But I felt it on my skin,
It is still warm.

I didn`t hear the screams,
But they are ringing in my ears,
Begging for mercy.

I didn`t witness the tortures,
But I can feel them beating me,
The bruises are everywhere.

I wasn`t made to walk barefoot
On the hot sand of the desert for months,
But my feet still burn.

I didn`t see my whole family, my people,
Breath their last tormented breath,
But that air is stuck in my lungs.

I wasn`t born on foreign land,
I grew up on my own,
But something was always missing.

No, it`s not a tale.
It`s not another nightmare,
It`s the reality.

They wiped us out like dust,
They took a piece of me,
A piece of every Armenian.

I wasn`t there but I won`t forget.
It`s a miracle we still exist,
But we do, and always will!

No, it`s not a tale,
It`s the reality.
It did happen.

Marine AltunyanThank you so much for your responses:) I grateful that I was able to express through a poem something I find hard to express with words. Since tomorrow is April 24 I am dedicating this to the 1.5 million armenians wiped off the face of earth and to all those that as a result leave outside their homeland. Perhpas one day justice will set in and this genocide will be recognised!Cyprus4/23/2008 8:03:59 AM

MarineIn fact this is about the Armenian Genocide which has not been accepted even up to this date. But the topic is somewhat general and it can be applied to all the genocides and holocausts that have taken place even such as the one in Rwanda.Cyprus3/27/2008 12:24:50 AM

KatrinaThis is a good poem. I'm part German, but, I still believe that even though others of earilier generations try to forget, it still did happen, I only hope that people can forgive my people, my ancestry, I'm so sorry that this happened.USA1/9/2008 4:41:19 PM
