 Poem:

INNOCENCE LOST

Taken from my home
Stripped of all that I own
I am no longer a person
But a number,
I am dead inside
No more moral or pride,
I have succumb to hunger and pain
The crowding of the train
I march toward the slaughter-
Never thought I would die a martyr
Thrown into the flame
An innocent criminal that took the blame
I harmed no one
Broke no moral nor written law
My only flaw
Was a belief…

TaylorThis poem is bursting with emotion. Innocence Lost has really got me thinking of all the horrible things that happened in the holocaust. all the lives that were taken for granted and thrown away, with nothing of a thought. like they were just a passing breeze. when they were so much more. they were human beings that deserved to live and experience the wonders and little twists and turns life throws at us. they didn't deserve the cliff they were thrown off of. (figuratively speaking) I love how this poem ends. so little words with such a powerful meaning. "My only flaw Was my belief..." Words can't describe how much meaning this poem has. It's definitely a work of art. and should never be over looked.Wisconsin 3/10/2009 9:02:57 PM
Casey S.I chose this poem to memorize for our poetry cafe at my school. It really means a lot to me and since I am one of the only jewish people at my school, I figured I am one of the only people who can actually appreciate this poem enough to present it to my class.Milwaukee, WI, USA2/28/2009 10:11:29 PM
