 Poem:

HELL BY ANY NAME

This acheron this nether world
where the dead watch from the mud
where no birds sing but bullets zing
and sometimes it rains blood.
This blasted place this tartarus
where man should never tread
where flesh and bone has no home
in the mansions of the dead.
No sweet perfume of spring in bloom
no flowers on which to tread
just rats and flies under dark grey skies
and the decomposing dead.
From perditions steps we rise and fall
lions by donkeys led,
as we march through land that now belongs
to the legions of the dead.
