OUR MOTHER’S EYES
Our Mother’s EyesFrom the time we yell out our first songInto the tender arms of love, we are bornHeld and protected from harmHer soothing voice calms us downFrom a lullaby we remember the tuneIt was not so long agoBut we were still only her child From the first words we sayAnd till the last breathe we takeWe remember only her face and voiceThat she be there to take away our painAnd nurse them back againNo matter what we saySometimes in hurtful waysShe accepts with an open heartThat sometimes even her perfect children fallAnd forgiving them is never in doubtBut she there again no matter whatHow old we gain in age And the problems we facedFor the cruel world bring much hateBut to find first loveWe go back to a timeWhen her smile brought back lifeAnd never are we that far awayTo call to say the simple thingsWe miss when we were youngNow old and sometimes greyWe still be that child to stayCradle within the arms of loveFor we never grew up In our mother’s eyesHer child we be, till we diePrem Anand Rethinasamy
