 Poem:

BROKEN BOOTS

There is an old forgotten Soldier
who stands on the corner of our street
dressed in worn out clothing
with broken boots upon his feet,

He once served his country bravely
in distant foreign lands
but his sacrifice is forgotten
and upon that street he stands,

Alone now and forgotten
by the very country that he served
homeless cold and lonely
is this what he deserves?

He fought in wars he did not ask for
but was proud to do his part
and those wars have left him broken
and wounded his once proud heart.

Now he stands forgotten
on that corner of our street
his proud spirit as broken
as those boots upon his feet...

ROS SHRAPNELIn Australia we say 'thanks' and celebrate these brave men and women with a public holiday once a year. It is very upsetting to know that for the remaining 364 days they are forgotten. Very touching.Australia6/13/2008 12:31:04 PM
