BABY'S AWAKE
Bump, bump, thump, thumpRhythmical and faintinterrupted by the screech of chattering MagpiesTick, tock, tick, tockclock muffled by the heavy duvetpulled around my earsSizzzzzzz wife's quiet breathingRumble, clatter of distant carsearly morning workers-beep beepBump, bump, thump, thumptiny infant feetclearer more urgentIf she could speakI suppose she would say Where are you Mummy? Daddy?Gaa, coo, gaa, goo-babytalkMovement audible. Cot creakstime to get upThe rustle of warm bedclothesBare feet on linen sheetsreplaced by bare feet on wooden floorsThe jingle, jangle, rattle of hot watersurging through heating pipes and radiatorsSqueaky door hinge-needs oilOpen door to a bright, smiling faceClick light onHey you! What's all that thumping about? You little rascal! Her bright eyes sparkle in rested contentmentTime to get up little lady
