 Poem:

WOMAN

When a woman sobs in the middle of the night

Could the man by her bedside feel her pain and dare to wake from his slumber?

And even if he would, could it end up her pain

Of her prolonged unspoken agonies

If a woman’s fury bursts and yells at the top of her lungs

Throwing out venomous amount of contempt, yearnings and frustrations

Would it not be taken against her as a nagger and as a low-breed bitch?

If a woman speaks her mind and spills her heart with utmost care

Picking the right words, softest voice and with the slightest hint of emotion

Would she not be taken for granted as a woman talks about how her ordinary days went?

Could he listen with two ears and a full heart?

If a woman succumbs to her most treasured weapon of silence

Zipping her pain and burying her reasons down to her deepest chambers

Could she have at least her fair share of battle?

Or would he listen to her silence.

And if she was able to have her battle

A woman could neither win nor lose

For if she is to win, it would take away the hurt in her knuckles

And much too soon leaving her empty handed.

And if she is destined to lose her battle then it would just be any other ordinary way of losing.

Of to be proven wrong, of being too sensitive, emotional, and irrational.

What if talk becomes cheap and silence fails

Could there be hope for her to break free?

Of speaking her mind and pouring her heart

Without shielding away words of contempt and of overreaction.

Of just being heard and being loved in spite and despite of.

If a woman chooses to feel numb and dare not to think

Dare to forget the pain and goes on living her life without expectation

She still goes on working but with an empty mind and a tired and weary soul.

If a woman opt to stop spinning the wheel and dare to leave her pain

Could she leave without tearing her heart apart?

Could she separate her thorns from its rose

Without pricking her soft thumb and without bleeding

If a woman dare to seek for more love

Does that become her an insatiable soul?

If a woman yearns for more appreciation

Does that make her ungrateful?

If a woman would want to rekindle passion

Does that brand her as hopeless romantic and unable to resist fixation?

What is there left for her to long for without having to shield away from being naïve?

If you must care for a woman

Hear not just to her laughs but also listen her smiles

Do not just wipe away her tears but also hug her tight

Do not just show the way but be with her along that way.

She does not expect for a ripe and full understanding

For you can never know in depth the wells of her souls

Elizabeth OlesenVery beautiful piece, Ana, which leaves a number of questions, a creation from your hand which needs to be read and read all over again for much deeper reflections.Denmark8/31/2009 2:28:59 PM
