 Poem:

SUMMER WINE

We talked of drinking Muscat at a café by the beach
On days when all the dreams we had still seemed within our reach
And nothing’s changed between us, all the change is within me
I need more than is yours to give – you’re tied, but I am free.
I close my eyes, and when I wake, I find I'm still alone
Too often, when I need to talk, you can't pick up the phone
I'm lost, and nothing I can do will give me sweet release
Bravado helps me stand, but doesn't bring me any peace.
The nights of whispered secrets when the vows we made were true
Are silent now, and my dreams feel so empty, without you.
I told you once, that you would be my last throw of the dice
That, having found perfection, what we shared would now suffice.
I love you still, with everything that's in my soul to give
And I miss the quiet moments when we talked of how we'd live.
Now there’s never time to tell you all the things I long to say
Or to feel that sweet connection, at the closing of the day.
The Autumn wind is blowing on the leaves now turning gold
And my heart aches with the yearning for the love I'll never hold.
The sunrise of the morning is the colour of new wine
And the sweetest flavour comes from grapes that wither on the vine.

Congratulations,Mandy! Thanks you for writing this. A true poet is one who bears some amount of pain in his/her body, and is able to release this surge of pain in words that bring hope and courage. You just have done it with this winning piece.10/28/2009 1:40:11 PM
