THE SONG OF LIFE

“Grow up and see for yourself”.
This was the famous song.
It was a favorite to my old lady.
All her children heard this song, but
None of us ever liked it, for
It was a depriving song.

It denied me of enjoying my childhood.
All my young financial needs were shifted beyond the expire date
It is also for this song that my heart never rested
I kept worrying about what the future held for me.
My mind kept thinking… what will happen once
I got my own children?
Of course being a parent was plain sailing,
So I told myself.

But there was the song.
It made me think otherwise.
For a moment, I wanted to remain a child,
But even if nature could allow it, my curiosity would not.
I wanted to experience being a parent.

Time went by,
I went through all my school years
But the song remained.
It never took a study break,
Or maybe a sick leave.
It was there throughout my childhood

I am a grown up now.
Now everything seems beyond my reach.
I can not even find a job.
The children are so demanding
They want everything money can buy.
Where do they think I get the money?
Do I grow coins in my garden? Or
Do I have a sign written on my forehead saying…
Money is not a problem?

No one seems prepared to answer my questions.
Is it because of the song? Did it put a curse on me?
Oh! That song
My mother is a pensioner now.
She does not sing the song anymore.
She does not even remind me that
She did sing it for me. and
Now I am only left with one thing…..
To “see for myself”.
