PEACE AND TRANQUILITY by Mozelle Garrett

Peace and Tranquility is all that we ask for.
And when we go out and come back, we never know what to expect before opening the door.
Will, we be met as we enter with either a smile or either an upside down frown?
Or, will we be asked to share in our excitement and to get comfy and sit down.

We just like everything and everyone to be happy and to be nice.
Including, ourselves; we don’t like turmoil or even strife.
We need this - Our aura is not to be willfully invaded - This is and is very important to us.
But, we need and want peace and tranquility in order to get along with others - this is a must!

Our men - have their own thoughts as to how things should be.
We try our best to be there for them - with a smile and maybe even some ego stroking.
When we feel that we are not being treated in the manner that we should - you see,
We, women need that peace and tranquility in order to remain sane and serene. No Joking!

GOING TO COLLEGE by Mozelle Garrett

My grandson is a senior in High School now.
He told me that he wanted to go to College after graduation.
I told him that I would be so very happy and proud,
And, that I would help him with obtaining and filling out the College applications.

My grandson, somewhere down the line, finally figured out how important going to college can be.
He realizes now that having an education can help you out tremendously in life.
He is working very hard to do his very best in High School - you see.
Because getting good grades there - can assist and help get you through life’s many turmoils and strifes.

Going to college is what I have always dreamed of for him to do.
It now seems to also be his dream too!
My grandson is growing up to be a seemingly responsible young man.
And, I am so glad that going to College is now a part of his life’s plan.

A WOMAN OF MEANS by Mozelle Garrett

A knowledgeable woman – Is a woman of means.
She never quenches when she is approached.
And she has a way of saying things – it seems,
That lets you know that her persona will be the domineering coach.

A woman of means is in the prime of her life.
She has worked hard and has raised her family.
She can now retire and enjoy those things that will make her life, oh so, nice.
And her only fault will be spoiling her grand kids – intentionally!

She is a strong and caring woman – in many ways.
Her life is full - she enjoys being surrounded by friends and family.
It is now her turn to be the pampered woman of today.
She now has the upper hand and a well-seasoned life – you see!

This woman can be graceful and elegant – quite the socialite!
And she knows the, oh so, finer things in life.
And she is, also, there for support for any of her family and friends
She is a strong willed woman - Don’t mess with or upset her or you will see and feel her, oh so sweet, well-planned revenge.

She glows of confidence – a woman who has been there – and done that!
You cannot help but to tip your hat.
When she speaks – her intentions are to be heard.
And she demands the respect that she deserves.

A woman of means ages gracefully.
When she walks the walk and talks the talk – she draws attention.
She is a force to be reckoned with – truly.
She will not lead you astray – and when she speaks – please listen.

When you are living life to the fullest –
You know that somewhere down the road you will leave a mark to be seen.
It takes a woman years to reach that plateau of seasoned meaningfulness.
And all of these things are what makes you a woman of means.

WHEN YOUR CHILD GOES OFF TO COLLEGE by Mozelle Garrett

Your child is leaving to attend a college out of town.
You are so proud - but on your face there is still a frown.
Your child is growing up and leaving to pursue their education.
This has to be done - it’s a part of becoming an adult and in choosing their own revelation.

You talk to them - telling them to give their all for a college education;
And, to be the very best that they can be when it comes to their adult life - too!
This is just another phase in their growing up and having more self-gratification.
And, that going off to attend college and cutting the apron strings - is what they need to do!

TAKING BACK OUR NEIGHBORHOOD by Mozelle Garrett

Genesis 4:9 says, “I Am My Brother’s Keeper”

Here on Grayton Street we have a quiet and tight-knitted neighborhood.
We all moved here for peace of mind and the betterment of our lives - because we could.
There are those out there that are trying their best to destroy us - you see.
It’s not gonna happen - because we have come together to show togetherness and unity.

As a neighborhood we have had many good times.
But just recently - we have been hit by a bunch of home invaders.
Some of us have been here for years and are not use to so many of these types of crimes.
Today, we are here to pray and to ask God for his assistance to help us to become diligent neighbors.

You know - Neighbors - that all we have is each other to depend on and to watch out for each and every one of us.
The protection and safety of our families and this community are a must.
We here on Grayton Street have to stand together against these adversities.
There has to be a way to deter these kinds of wrongful activities.

We all want and long for that feeling again of reassurance, comfort and security.
Solutions and/or whatever it takes - we have to create a safe place for us to live and stay!
For ALL the Grayton Street families to get everything back to our own sense of tranquility.
We must take back our neighborhood and it has to be done now - today!

I HAVE A VERY SPECIAL NIECE by Mozelle Garrett

There is a very special person that God has given to us!
We call her by her nickname - Mia.
This special young lady is God sent and she is loved very much!
She is my niece and her name is Demetria.

Mia has overcome many challenges in her young life.
I feel that God made her this way for a reason you see.
She is so very talented and smart!
She has her own personality that makes her very special to me.
And, she will always have a special place in my heart!

This young lady has come a long way!
Her 'disability' does not hold her back on any day!
She is an example of the true meaning of love and caring.
You can learn a lot from Mia by listening, observing and sharing.

MONEY by Mozelle Garrett

Whosoever said that you can‘t live on love alone - knew what they were talking about.
It’s good to have love mixed up in there somewhere,
But, money is the key to all ‘get outs’.
Without it - it is an unpleasant feeling and/or experience to bear.

I am just being practical about it.
Food, shelter and clothing are necessities that we all need.
If there is a way to accomplish this without money - then, please give out these little tidbits -
Or write a book, or something, on how it can be done in other ways, in order to live at ease.

Money can’t buy you love - I heard that in a song.
But with money, for some, it can truly help out and save the day!
Money, or the lack thereof, can also put a strain on a relationship - is this wrong?
So, money does helps out tremendously - I do say!

MY GRANDSON'S OPERATION by Mozelle Garrett

7/5/2008

My youngest grandson needs an operation.
He is almost three and can hardly talk.
They say he needs tubes put in his ears to drain fluid - to prevent more ear infections!
And, that this might help him to better hear and enable him to catch up and to talk.

My grandson and his parents stay out of town.
I will fly there to be at the hospital with him and his parents.
My husband said to go ahead and fly there to be by his side - he hates to see me worry and my face all a frown.
We both adore our two grandsons - because they are God sent!

I flew out of town and was there when my youngest grandson was born.
In fact, I was present at the birth of both of my grandsons.
I am a grandmother that is sensitive and very emotional and I am never torn -
When, it comes to the love that I have in my heart for my grandsons.

He is scheduled to have the operation in about a month - you see.
The following month he will turn three years old - my precious little tyke.
I know that everything will go alright - it’s just me.
Knowing that I will be there to hold my baby afterwards and to tell him that grandma is here;
And, that everything will be alright!

THE 4TH OF JULY by Mozelle Garrett

Today is the 4th of July.
Flags of red, white and blue are flying high.
This is a patriotic holiday.
Today, we celebrate Independence Day!

This day will be celebrated with parades and patriotic speeches.
There will be fireworks lighting up the skies.
The signing of the Declaration of Independence teaches -
That we as free and independent people should commemorate the 4th of July!

PEACEFUL LIVING by Mozelle Garrett

I do believe that I can tell you a little something about peaceful living.
From a retiree’s point of view, it is the best!
My husband and I now live in a big house we brought when buying -
A place for us to raise our family and eventually to retire here and rest.

The children are grown now and have moved out!
The two of us are here all by ourselves - and it is very quiet and peaceful.
We are both retired now - and have become somewhat agreeable -
Could this be a part of what peaceful living is all about!

BEING A WOMAN by Mozelle Garrett

Being a woman is truly an accomplishment in itself.
A woman was not put here for the sole purpose of just being a companion for a man.
There are other things, we as women, can do for the acknowledgement of ourselves -
Being just a wife and mother should not be our only life’s plan.

Being a woman does not stop you from going as far as you want to and/or can.
We have established ourselves as being a very important part of yesterday’s and today’s worlds.
Not only do we get married and raise a family, we can also help out our man.
We work, bring home additional income and still can be put on a pastel as his precious pearl.

Women, I do believe, can keep things in order and running smoothly.
We can be wives, mothers, run households, run companies, govern a town and can also be a presidential candidate.
Being a woman is and can be so many different things - obviously.
A woman is a reflection of what is good in the world - and, she can shine through whatever is on her plate.

Being a woman is what I enjoy being most in my life.
I am retired now; but, I am married, I have raised two children and I have run a tight and respectful household.
And - your work is never done whether you are a young, a middle aged or an older woman - life can be, sometimes, tiring and/or can also be, oh - so nice
Being a woman - is being unselfish, giving, loving and understanding - this will and can be true for generations to come - I was told!

Being a Woman - It’s just wonderful! I couldn’t ask for anything more.

SUMMER by Mozelle Garrett

It looks and feels a lot like Summer has finally arrived!
Today it was up in the 90’s - what a surprise!
A couple of weeks ago - temperatures were in the 50’s and 60’s.
There was a slight chill in the air - and it was rainy and misty.

It seemed as though Winters are getting much longer.
You never knew from one day to the next - what to expect.
Now that Summer is here and the climate is much warmer -
I sit in my backyard and let the sun warm me while taking a Summer’s rest.

MY DEAREST AND CLOSEST FRIENDS by Mozelle Garrett

I can count on one hand all of my true friends.
But, some stand out above the rest.
These are the ones that are true blue – and they are the best.
They are very special because of the things they say and do.
This is how I know that these friendships are true.

F R I E N D S H I P

“F” is for the many FAVORS that we do and ask, occasionally, of each other.

“R” is for the mutual RESPECT that we have for one another.

“I” is for the friendship INITIATION that we all had to go through.

“E” is for the EVERLASTING trusts – that, we sometimes, may, have to renew.

“N” is for the NECESSITY of being there whenever there is a problem to solve.

“D” is for our DREAMS for each of us to be happy in whatever the cause.

“S” is for the SOLITUDE and STRENGHT that comes from being everlasting friends.

“H” is for the HELP we may need from each other and will keep us going to the end.

“I” is for our INDIVIDUALITY that makes the friendships great.

“P” is for the everlasting PARTNERSHIP that we have all formed to this date.

FAMILY REUNION by Mozelle Garrett

A Family Reunion is when and where a family - young and old - gathers together.
It is an event where we can all meet up to discuss all family matters.
You reminisce about the good times, the sad times and the bad times - this sets the tone.
There are new babies in the family - you see that the family has really grown.

You meet family members that you may not remember or you may not even know.
And you check the family reunion's program to see if you are down for the family talent show.
A family is a blessing - its means so many things.
Words could never tell the joy a loving family brings.

A family is a bond of faith - that even time cannot sever.
The precious unity of a family - is a gift that last forever!
A couple of days spent enjoying yourselves - as a total family.
You experience that feeling of family and belonging - totally.

Whether a family is bound together or are scattered far apart.
Loved ones from the past and present will always be in your heart!
Families give us history; roots tied to our past.
The Family Reunion is an honored heritage that will surely last!

HAVING A STROKE by Mozelle Garrett

6/7/2008

Having a stroke, even a mild or mini one - called a T.I.A., changes you.
You never feel the same like you use to.
You notice that you are sometime not in control of your actions.
Your eye jumps and your speech seem to be in slurred motions.

Mild or mini strokes, or T.I.A.’s, can happen to anyone at any time - you are so sadden!
These types of strokes can happen to you and constantly.
You get to the place when you know when one is about to happen!
So you wait it out, hoping that it is a mild or mini one - obviously.

Feeling pressure in the top of your head,
Hoping that when you come out of it, that everything will be alright!
Sometimes one side of your body can go limp instead.
So, you sit down, to keep from falling - with relief soon in sight!

You come out of it OK this time - and there is a sigh of relief.
Thanking God that - it was not severe.
There are people who have strokes, bad ones, and need therapy.
These mild or mini strokes do slight damage to the brain --oh, the tears.

This has been going on for a few years now, and I have come to deal with it in my own way!
I never know when a mild or mini stroke is going to happen to me.
Even, while typing this - I could have one right now - today!
God has seen fit to allow me to come out of them OK - you see.

I thank God, with all my heart - for each day he allows me to be here,
Because there are some - that never recover or fully recover from a stroke.
I think of them sometimes and my eyes fill up with tears.
I am truly blessed - it is too soon - I cannot picture not being here with all my folks.

THE U.S. of America - 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION by Mozelle Garrett

Just the other day a democratic candidate was chosen.
He will run against the republican candidate for the Presidency!
History was made that day - and it is proposing -
That, we, the citizens of the U.S., will elect a new President - to fill the upcoming vacancy!

To understand the racial and hateful outburst, is beyond me!
IS it because a minority is the democratic candidate??
What difference does it make - if his credentials show that he can and will turnaround our devastating economy!
Voting for the one who will do the most for the citizens of the U.S. - should be our presidential candidate.

We should all be tired of what we are going through under this current regime.
The mounting unemployment, the high gas prices, and the most horrific of all, the foreclosure on so many homes - oh, the terrible sound!
This is so deployable - the White House needs a better and new effective team.
And, hopefully, to stop this mess, we need a President in office who will not bow down under any circumstance, and who will stand his ground!

The bottom line is that we need a President that is for this country and its people.
It’s OK to help other countries sometimes - But, what about US!
The United States of American and its people are going through some very rough and tough times.
And, choosing the one, regardless of their nationality and/or gender, that will help this country, and its people, to get back on its feet - Is a Must!

So, get out and vote for the candidate whom you feel will be in office to serve - We, the people of this United States of America! - We need a new breed!
We cannot keep going on like this and hoping to survive.
Putting the right person in the White House can be the change that we have been looking and waiting for and need!
And this, badly, needs to happen soon - because we are talking about our livelihoods and foremost, the betterment of our lives.

MY GRANDSON’S PROM AND GRADUATION by Mozelle Garrett

My grandson’s prom is going to be this Friday.
He is graduating from High School also in a couple days.
He will look so dashing in his black tuxedo.
He and his prom date together, will put on a fashion show.

All of the family will be here Friday to see them off.
Cameras will be flashing to make permanent this event in pictures.
My grandson is my pride and joy - and, on graduation day - his cap he will toss.
The Prom and his graduation from high school - he has, finally, accomplished for sure.

Right now he is pondering over his life’s goals and expectations.
Hopefully, it will include going on to college too!
It would make me so very happy and proud to attend his college graduation.
And, to see my grandson go on to accomplish these things would be a dream come true!

BEING FAITHFUL by Mozelle Garrett

Why is it so hard for some - to remain truly faithful?
When it comes to a long lasting relationship,
Has the relationship become no longer meaningful?
Or, are the problems becoming too many to list.

If you really and truly care for someone,
It should be easy to remain truthful and faithful.
If there are doubts and reservations about the relationship - talk to each other and/or talk to someone.
Remaining in a situation that does not work can be very stressful.

Those of us that have that special relationship,
Work hard in every aspect to keep and to make it work.
There are couples out there that can give you valuable tips,
On how and what makes being faithful - one of the ultimate element that works.

Being in love with someone that loves and cares for you is a wonderful thing,
But, if you cannot apply all of the essential elements to hold on - and which are a must -
Can be a sign - that to give up at this point can save your sanity and well-beings,
And could help you and them to go on to find a relationship where there is faithfulness and trust.

EXERCISING by Mozelle Garrett

Exercising will help you and your body to be healthy and to keep fit!
Do you, like me, need to trim down the old waist line?
Eating right and exercising will sometime, most likely, do the trick!
You must keep up this regiment and do it on and all the time.
When you have reached your goal - be proud of yourself.
One can never do too much to improve on oneself.
Exercising if done right can, also, be very good for the heart!
Doing the right exercises to reach your goal and to stay healthy is, definitely, an art!

A Father's Day Poem - 'MY FATHER - THE OTHER MAN IN MY LIFE!' by Mozelle Garrett

There is another Man in my life besides my better half.
He is the one who is partly responsible for me being here - oh yes!
This man can say things that can truly make you laugh -
Or, if need be, he can mean business; he is the best.

My father is the sort of man that sits there in the background.
When things are not going quite right - there is a frown.
You can feel his present - but he does not make it known.
And, if and when he speaks, he is setting the tone!

He is a wise and loving man.
He sits in his recliner in the family room.
When he needs to, he can - and will take a stand.
You stop whatever it is that you are doing - and you listen - he is the man!

I Love my father very much - forever and always.
He would never lead you astray.
He has the wisdom of his many years - and that - he does share.
I know that for his family - he really and truly cares.

Being here for a little more than nine decades is a blessing.
And, from him - we have learned many things from his long-ago stories.
I don't know what I would do - if and when his presence is missing.
God is good, my father is in pretty good health for a man of his age - and,
There is no need at this point for any concerns or worries.

My mother and father have been married for 62 years.
My father takes good care of her - my mother.
You can see the love in his eyes when he speaks about her - there is no other!
I get a lump in my throat when I see how they care for each other - I turn away when my eyes fill up with tears.

Dear Daddy - I love you very much!
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY Always!!
