There within me nothingness resides.
I pray to God to let this all subside.
Let met be able to let go
To find happiness I knew a time ago.

BROKEN by Casey Douglas Kenny

I am a skeleton that’s alive
Of life I have been deprived.
My faith is a Jew.
My number is 7-5-1-2.

My life was great,
I knew not my fate.
My hopes were high,
Till the day the bombs fell from the sky.

That day my family was divided,
I hoped we would again be reunited.
I was put on a train heading one way,
I dreamed of my family the rest of the day.

The train traveled into the unknown,
When it stopped the soldiers took me to a- designated zone.
People were being sorted by age,
The young were put behind a metal cage.

A soldier took away my name,
I saw that everyone was treated the same.
The soldier gave me a number
And a wood board for my slumber.

I was put with the others in a type of house,
There’s barely any room for a mouse.
There’s not enough food for us all
And everyday more of us fall.

At night I hear grown men screaming,
Nobody in here is dreaming.
I lay on my board
And I pray to the Lord.

Please deliver me from here,
For my life I fear.
Watch over my family and friends
Until they meet their ends.

Please strengthen my soul,
Fix in my heart this empty hole.
Take me away from life this night,
Before I see dawn’s first light.

Please I pray
To find that I’m alive the next day.
With my unanswered prayers,
I begin to wonder if He still cares.

The days are long and gray,
Here the children don’t play.
The people are worked without a break,
Here you pay with your life for a mistake.

I can hear the machine gun sound,
The now dead fall to the ground.
To collect the bodies was my job,
But never could I do it without a sob.

The bodies piled high.
I begin to cry.
Is this where my family went.
I pray to God to give me a hint.

The battle rages on outside the fence,
The situation is so intense.
The night sky is bright
With the soldier’s firefight.

Everyday I hope for something,
Escape to the allies when their bells ring.
Other’s pray for a faster death,
trying to end their breath.

I can’t imagine a fate worse then this,
Behind a fence beaten by the fist.
Life isn’t worth living,
Not when I’m left here body thinning.

Everyday is the same,
And everyday the allies never came.
Still I wait for them to come around the bend,
I hope they’ll be here before my end.

Slowly within I die.
To faith, hope, and love I say goodbye.
Now there’s nothing inside,
Not even a hint of pride.

I do my best to hide in my denial.
I try to hide in death a while.
I am broken beyond repair,
I don’t know how my mind will fare.

When the allies came I wasn’t there,
I’m mentally gone in the corner pulling hair.
Once a man now a hallowed shell,
I can no longer listen for the allies’ bell.

CAN YOU IMAGINE by Casey Douglas Kenny

Can you imagine...

A book without the ink.
A skunk that doesn’t stink.

Art that is concealed.
Leprechauns dancing in a field.

A birthday party without any cake.
All the fish walking out of the lake.

A life that’s boring.
Your dad not snoring.

Casual Fridays on a Saturday.
Football played another way.

Tears that aren’t wet.
A gambler that doesn’t bet.

Fires that don’t warm.
Poetry written in one form.

Stars that don’t have light.
Boxing without the fight.

A knight without his horse.
Police that use no force.

Cars that can fly.
Drugs that don’t get you high.

Eating spaghetti without the fork.
An imagination that doesn’t work.

I know not of then only of now by Casey Douglas Kenny

Tired of sleepless nights,
Wish I had something to make this right.
More than a thing
Someone to make my heart sing.
Pull each string soft and sweet,
To treat
Me back to reality.
Two different yet the same compatibility.
Back on my feet,
Ready to hit the street.
Not ready to take this on my own,
Please don't make me take it alone.
Take my hand
And let our feet leave land.
Lips eager to be kissed,
Arms that will be missed.

Then as soon as it started
We were left parted.
Gone for awhile,
Returning with a different style.
A new flare, a new fling
But will you still make my heart sing?
Gone for so long,
Will I dance to a different song?
Will there be a different beat
Keeping me on my feet?
Who's to say who what or how,
All I know is I miss you now.
I will see you soon,
Under some pale morning moon.
Together alone,
No parents, no school, no phone.
Just us two
Me and you.
Miss you deep
So much I'm missing sleep,
To write this for you,
Keeping it fresh and new.
Now for the end
My sweetest of friend.
Sweet dreams and a good night,
I will see you in your dreams tonight.
MY BOYS by Casey Douglas Kenny

The planes above are flying high,
But in me the troops rely.
I’m to lead them to the front
And with them I am blunt.

Troops listen here.
Our mission is clear.
Support the allies
They face an enemy of great size.

I have just two rules.
First don’t act like a bunch of fools.
Second don’t get yourself killed,
Until our mission is fulfilled.

Now gather your gear
And forget all your fear.
You’ll be seeing plenty of gore.
Then again this is war.

We left the base together,
Birds of a feather
And brothers in arms.
Each with our good luck charms.

We arrived to the front,
Ready to take up the hunt.
We brought bodies and fresh supplies.
Ready to take the prize.

The battle’s intense,
We’re put on the defense.
I hear the bullets passing by,
But I refuse to die.

My boys are standing strong,
But this is not where they belong.
I watch them fall.
No longer standing tall.

Their kids fresh from school,
Being used as a nation’s tool.
I see the life leave their eyes,
As they scream out their last goodbyes.
Our morale is fast depleting.
We’re taking one hell of a beating.
The enemies are coming forth.
We’re forced towards the north.

Now we’re left without cover.
A way out we must discover.
Grenades and bullets heading this way.
I tell the boys its okay.

Here we are stuck
Running out of luck.
Then the planes arrived apropos,
To fight the foe.

Everyone shouts in victory,
That is everyone except for me.
Today I lost my sons
To the enemy’s guns.

Tomorrow I’ll be sent more
To lead into war.
They’ll die just like the others,
Never again to see their mothers.

By Casey Kenny
BURNING MORTALITY by Casey Douglas Kenny

Burn away mortality,
Kill this painful reality.
Lay it on the funeral pyre
And watch as it's set on fire.

Feel the burn,
Flames dance and turn.
Fueled by fears
Extinguished by tears.
Flickering and tormenting.
Sit back and start lamenting.
Watch it burn down to dust.

Collect your ashes before the gust
Of wind comes and takes them away
And carry them into the gray.

Smoldering black smoke.
Hang around you and choke.
Leaving you breathless,
In silent distress.

Gone with your humanity,
Death within your insanity.
No chance of escaping
Through holes gaping.
Growing wide,
Unable to release whats inside.

This is your pyre,
You're the one who set it on fire.
It's your burning mortality,
Your frightful fatality.
Feeding off your fears
From your countless years.
This is your funeral day,
Toss your ashes away.

Are you missed yet
Or did everyone already forget?

Don't be afraid to make mistakes by Casey Douglas Kenny

Reach for the moon and stars,
Empty out saving jars.
Spill color on the blank sail.
You live not wanting to fail.
