(Happy Birthday Krishna 2009) by Prerna Chikersal

The one in many & the many in one
The end of life, middle & from where it begun
In pleasure or pain, good or bad, love or hate
You are in all—animate & inanimate

You are the one who scolds, & the one who cares
The one who gives, takes & shares
You are there in good or evil, friend or foe
You & only you are the giver of joy & sorrow

How sweet & naughty you are!
You’re so near, yet you appear so far
We are your dream, for us different roles you depute
Oh! The way you make us dance on the sweet sound of your flute

The enchanting sound of your flute, sweeps us of our feet
And we forget the face behind the sorrow & joy, cold & heat
Wearing different masks you come whenever we call
As a mother, father, loved one, friend, teacher or anyone at all

Life after life, lost in illusion, we suffer
The struggle to touch perfection becomes tougher & tougher
The day when pleasure & pain seems nothing but the same
Tis called perfection, when we do everything in your name

Lost in your dream, we forget you so fast
But, alas! Tis to you that we have to return at last
And no matter how much we might drift apart
You forgive us, embrace us with tearful eyes & comfort our heart

This day, lost here I sing thy praise
Tears in my eyes, my vision does haze
I call out to you, believing you’ll be there
As a godhead in every person, a godhead everywhere

Oh! Giver of joy, giver of sorrow
Mistakes I make, at every step, I know
So at every step, I stumble, I fall, I bleed
And every time, your guidance is all I need

To correct my flaws, empower my belief
Bless me, to sense you, feel you & offer me relief
So, by bringing your children back, I too can worship you
By serving them with love & helping them see what is true

So, no person will grieve, no child will cry
You gave me this purpose, which I’ll fulfil till I die
But, first with all my heart full of faith, I call out to you
To come & show me the right path which is true

So, this day, lost here I sing thy praise
Tears in my eyes, my vision does haze
This is all I pray on this auspicious day
Happy Janamashtmi! I wish you a very happy birthday!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY by Prerna Chikersal

Not too long back, a few years ago
You held us in your arms & rocked us to & fro
The first person in the world we knew
Can be no one else but you

Like an angel from the heavens above
You nurtured us well with such the unconditional love!
You are always there for us, whether day or night
Like an umbrella of love protecting us from the harsh sunlight

I know you’ll be there for me to catch me if I fall
Whenever it is time for school, I have no worries at all
Cause you get up every morning to get me ready fast
& pack yummy delights especially for my breakfast

You remind me always to work very hard
All that we’ve achieved is actually your reward
Sitting with us all day to teach us ABC’s
And then at night rocking us to sleep

You always make sure I eat, before you have your meal
Whenever you saw us succeed, you were filled up with love & zeal
Holding our hand to keep us on the right track
You told us to dream & said there’s nothing we lack

All your stories you narrated
Oh, the values you embedded
Whatever we are—whatever we will be
Is because of you & your love bigger than the sea

Even the lord above cannot love us as much as you do
Cause you are actually our god & we really love you
I know I cannot pay back anything you’ve done
All that love, all that care, all the beauty & all that fun

Mother, you love us with all your heart
And we too loved you right since the start
Even ‘Thank you’ is too small a word to say
All that I can say is—‘I love you & Happy Mother’s day!’
THE JOYS OF CHILDHOOD by Prerna Chikersal

Dancing around like little raindrops
On muddy roads & more
Window shopping in the shops
Building castles at the sea shore

Little fights on a pen or a doll
Lasting only a moment or two
Then, a little hug to end it all
And skipping together saying I love you

Running & dancing here & about
Slipping hard & rising with every fall
Laughing & Playing—a chuckle & a shout
Swinging high on swings, & shooting a ball

Then cosily, in mum’s lap, at night
Listening to joyous words, & toys anew
Then, on the terrace with dad, flying a kite
With an innocent smile as fresh as dew

Knowing neither grief nor worry
Lost in their own jolly world
At their own pace, ne’er in a hurry
Aspiring to build a happy dream-world

A stranger as well as their dear one
They can make anyone smile
They enclose love for everyone
They know nothing of cheat or wile

Those days were so nice; that can’t be forgotten
Though, I can forget everything else I’ve got
I wish I could go back the steps I’ve trodden
Twas the happiest time, that now can’t be bought

I miss the swings & the playful laughter
So, let me return to what I find good
I miss the innocent talks without any falter
So, let me return to the joys of childhood

GENERATION NEXT! Tell me, why oh why!
Why can’t I do what I think is fun
Why must I change, why must I run?

One day, I know I have to grow up
But, for now let me enjoy this sweet syrup
The syrup of laughter, free of plight
Free to dream & free of blight

My fresh mind & little hands can’t do more
Can’t do more of this taxing chore
Let me in to my world of freedom
Let me take off to the Lord’s kingdom

I know nothing, of evil, envy or hate
I like to live now, & leave the rest to fate
So let me live my dream of life
Where love & care, both are rife

After all, one day I too will be one of those
Who pick their briefcase & tie up their shoes
My innocent smile can’t be bought
No matter how much money you got

Why must I lose the priceless smile I hold?
My naïve eyes & a heart of gold
Let me live in my own world of joy
Let me be tender, mild & coy

Cause, I too shall grow up one day
But, at least for now let me have my way
Let me wear my pleasant smile
My shiny eyes as deep as river Nile

Then, just see how I reach high
How my innocence touches the sky
See that this world will be a better place
Please don’t let my childhood haze!

Let this world be an world of innocence
A world of children free & full of fragrance
Then, see the beauty—the beauty of children
And see the colours & the new world they brighten
Poets & Their Famous Lines by Prerna Chikersal

Oh! There are so many poets born on earth
Even more are their poems of so much worth
Every so often I sit & think
I’m just another drop in the ocean’s sink

Each & every poet has his own famous line
I wonder if there is any little quote that’s truly mine
I don’t know why or how the various poetic devices are used?
I just write what I feel, about things which leave me often amused

“And Miles to go before I sleep”
Is Robert Frost’s most popular cheep
“I wandered lonely as a cloud”
Is a popular line Wordsworth said aloud

And yes, Tennyson is not too far behind
Many striking lines had harvested from his mind
“For men may come & men may go, but I go on forever”
Now, to poems, such lines add a lot of flavour

Finally, I think, I have written a thoughtful line
A line not too famous, but at least it’s mine
“Life is a play & we’re merely its cast”
Is my very own saying at last!

Thank the Lord for the 'Garden of Life' by Prerna Chikersal

Strolling down the ‘Garden of Life’
Where ups & downs are both rife
This garden is full of so many colours
It’s full of so many attractive flowers

The beautiful mounts touching the sky
The priceless waters that no one can buy
The lord gave us so much, so many things to love
He gave us life, & a garden we must preserve

He has given everything we own
We are the seedlings he had sown
We are his dream, but we’ve become his nightmare
Now, becoming his dream again, is my only prayer

Oh! Just look how beautiful is the ‘Garden of Life’
Where love & care can beat any strife
The ‘Garden of Life’— is a boon he has given
He himself had decorated this beautiful garden

We should be thankful for everything he has done
We should be grateful for the precious life he’s given
So, thank the lord— oh! Thank the lord
For the wonderful things, that we’ve got

Thank the lord for the ‘Garden of Life’
The ‘Garden of Life’— full of colours & wildlife
He has given us ‘wings to fly’
So why not climb & touch the sky

The lord gave us everything
Even the soothing birds that sing
He gave food, & water to drink
A heart to love & a mind to think

He has done so much for us thought we don’t deserve it
As we are destroying his ‘garden’ slowly bit by bit
We must stop this destruction & brooding on what we need
We must be grateful for what we have, & control our greed

So, thank the lord—oh! Thank the lord!
For the wonderful things, that we’ve got
Let us together plant more seeds in this ‘Garden of Life’
And make it more pretty & stop cutting it with a knife

Thank the lord for the ‘Garden of Life’
The garden of life— full of colours & wildlife
For the water & food we eat, & the birds that sing & fly
For the animals, family, friends & our life that no one can buy
Create A Positive World From Negativity by Prerna Chikersal

What to do, I just don’t understand
I feel I’m alone on a deserted land

This land is full of negative feelings
There are only injuries & no healings

There has to be a way—a way to turn the wheel of life
There has to be a way to end this gruesome moment of strife

I know there is indeed a way
To turn this dark night into day

After night, when the sun rises in the east
And we all see the pretty dawn & enjoy our feast

The sun looks best at this time of the day
How beautiful it looks, shining o’er the bay

Life too is very much the same
Once you get the rules, it’s an easy game

Positive thought is taken to be the most powerful trend
But, you shall be surprised to know, my beloved friend—

That when a negative moment is turned to a good situation
It has much more power than any other positive condition

Only when we rise with every fall, we are able to achieve success
Similarly, only after every wrong situation, we are able to progress

So, my dear, don’t think every negative situation is full of grief
Change it into a positive moment, & turn a brand new leaf

This brand new life, will be a million times better than the earlier one
The light of this negative to positive notion will be greater than that of the sun

So, stop cursing your fate & stop self-pity
And create a positive world from negativity

That is the rule of life, my dear
Follow it now & shift your gear!
ONE LORD by Prerna Chikersal

Who made the earth?
Who made it of so much worth?

Who made the wind, the air & the land?
Who made the crystal blue water & the white sand?

But, most important of all I feel that I must ask
Who made us? Who did such a wonderful task?

It has to be lord, the maker of the universe
He wrote the poem of life, slowly verse by verse

He drew the mountains, the sea & the stars so high
He made us all, & the animals, plants & birds that fly

Who is the lord? Is it Jesus, or Krishna?
Or perhaps you call him Buddha or Allah?

Oh! The god has so many names
So many people lay their claims

But all religions preach the same
It’s man who has played this naming game

The truth is that the lord is one
He’s there everywhere from the ground to the sun

He is there present in each one of us
He is Krishna, Allah, Buddha & he’s Jesus

Well, I say this with a sigh
Tell me why oh why!

Why do we fight o’er the same god’s name?
Why do we play such a painful game?

Why are there wars between different regions?
Why do we fight in the name of religions?

No religion teaches warfare
Each one preaches to love & care

So stop shedding blood over colour, caste & creed
We all belong to the same human breed

The lord is a writer, the writer of night & day
And we are merely the cast—only the cast of his play

The lord is one, he is the father— the father of mankind
So drop your gun & unite with all heart, soul & mind
The Magical Seasons by Prerna Chikersal

Round & round ‘the wheel of season’ goes
A gentle & soft breeze then blows
First is the spring, bouncing about with joy
She fills with excitement the heart of every girl & boy
She is very beautiful & brightens up our day
Tis neither cold nor hot when she comes our way
At that time, we’re new to the world & eager to move on
Not knowing what is to come as it is yet only dawn
This cycle doesn’t stop & the wheel again begins to spin
And then approaches the summer when everyone tries to win
We are then young & are working towards our goal
Full of dreams & ideas, we’re just beginning to play our role
We’re working hard, it’s hot & we sweat
Still there’s a very long way before sunset
The clock then ticks & finally the hour arrives
The wheel again revolves that changes our lives
Then comes autumn, when success is already met
It’s when we’re well settled & our destiny is set
The leaves turn to yellow; we’ve matured & grown up
Now it’s time too watch the new leaves blossom & warm-up
Once more the majestic wheel starts to twirl
And one last time our world again begins to swirl
Finally tis the winter when we’ve fulfilled all our dreams
Some are sad & others are full of happiness & sparkling beams
These are the magical seasons of the wonderful Earth
Which make our life full of meaning, beauty & worth
Some ignorant mistakes by Prerna Chikersal

An employee applied for leave as follows:
Since I have to go to my village to sell my land along with my wife.
